When a text isn't enough
Long distance relationships, whether romantic or platonic, heavily rely on text messages. Sometimes a text just isn't enough. A digital love letter, a birthday letter, or any message that actually matters doesn't feel right as another chat bubble.
The need
The problem is not that people cannot message each other. It is that every message looks the same.
It is great how we can connect to people all over the world via chat messages. Online relationships have become very common. However, what would you do when you want to show someone your appreciation for them? In real life, you would probably give them a small thoughtful gift.
Small symbolic gestures like these aren't possible online. Yet online cute gestures are more important than anywhere else. A part of the beauty of online relationships is how it makes us be more creative and thoughtful with our messages. I'd argue that hardly anyone writes better sentimental and meaningful messages than people who've been in long distance relationships.
Yet sometimes these messages deserve a nicer package than the same text bubble we always see. This is where a virtual love letter comes in.
Why a letter
A letter is not just a long text, it also carries symbolic meaning.
Why not just use a long text? The problem is that the text messages will look the same as any message. They are basic and ordinary. If you are already going to write a long heartfelt message, why not also make sure it comes in a nice package?
There's something special about a letter. You get excited when you receive one. Opening it feels special. The format makes it feel more personal and special.
About the site
menu-un.me is a free site for writing a digital love letter and sending it as a private link. The domain name comes from "me and you - you and me". It has nothing (!!) to do with a restaurant menu !!!! 😅
You don't need to sign in to write a letter. Nothing is locked behind a paywall. Sign in if you want a couple additional design features. The design options will keep expanding, feel free to write Feedback if you're looking for a particular design.
This site was and is a personal project. Initially it was made for my own online relationship. I couldn't find a site that is free, simple, aesthetic, doesn't strictly require a sign up and doesn't post your message for everyone to see. This is why I decided to make one myself. There are a lot more complex sites with more styling options but sometimes it's better to keep it simple, fast to use and pretty.
You write a letter, you get a link. No more complicated than that!
If you sign in
Guests can still write a letter. They can pick the theme, font and add a spotify song.If you're signed in, the design tab grows in options: particles, icon patterns, aurora, and a page color. Additionally signed in users get a dashboard where they can keep their written letters as well as save letter's they've recieved to it. This way you won't lose a letter.
